El monument a Colon es va construir amb motiu de l'Exposició Universal de Barcelona del 1888. Els vuit lleons que l'envolten es van fondre amb bronze procedent de canons de Montjuïc. Eren canons fora de servei, que ja havien estat substituïts per altres. És gairebé segur que van ser els canons que van fer servir Baldomero Espartero i Joan Prim per bombardejar Barcelona el 1842 i el 1843.
The monument to Colon was built on the occasion of the Barcelona Universal Exhibition of 1888. The eight lions that surround it were cast with bronze from Montjuïc cannons. They were cannons out of service, which had already been replaced by others. It is almost certain that they were the cannons used by Baldomero Espartero and Joan Prim to bombard Barcelona in 1842 and 1843.
